AP English Literature and Composition
This course focuses on analyzing and arguing literature. We will be reading American and British authors, short fiction, longer fiction, and poetry.
I will be using AP Classroom, created by CollegeBoard, as its own virtual classroom. Its design and structure support the new AP course Big Ideas, Enduring Understandings, and Course Skills for AP Literature. Text choice is teacher-driven, but the AP Classroom provides progress checks and feedback for the skills taught. AP Classroom will be utilized throughout the year. I will post the Code to enroll in the AP Classroom class when school starts. That will be posted in Canvas and sent via Remind message.
The textbook and all novels are available from the school's library. Schools are checking out textbooks for students who need them.
However, I will be posting on this site pdfs that can be found online for the novels. They aren't the greatest, because there are no scholarly notes and annotations, nor is there any guarantee that the pdfs are perfect replicas of the texts.
I do encourage you to purchase the novels because then you can read the texts and mark up the actual books. Go for editions from Norton, Oxford, Cambridge, Penguin, or Barnes and Noble. I've listed the publishers in order of scholarliness and price. Barnes and Noble are probably the most accessible, with having a local store and being cheap, but they still have quality scholarly content.
The textbook is Perrine's Literature: Structure, Sound & Sense, Eleventh Edition. The TEXTBOOK button below will take you to the page that has all sections of the textbook as pdfs. Please note that due to copyright, only students and staff of MUHSD are able to access the textbook.
