Welcome to Junior English (English 3)!
The units for this course are based essays throughout the history of America, from encountering Native Americans to contemporary literature.
The focus for this year is to answer the question: What does it mean to be American?
Hopefully, through this course you will be better acquainted with our shared literary history and the history of the American people. We must acknowledge our history as a country and as a people. Not all of our history is good or close to perfect, and portraying historical figures only for their positive influence hides their negative impact on society. However, negating all the good historical figures have done eliminates the positive ways they have shaped our society. Acknowledging the past, the good and the bad, will illuminate how far we've come as a people and where we can go from here. It is my hope that this class provides multiple points of view from the people who lived the history we study.
I use the 2003 Edition of Holt Literature & Language Arts Fifth Course textbook as the text. The TEXTBOOK button below will take you to the page that has all sections (minus the Review Quizzes and Writing Units) of the textbook. Please note that due to copyright, only students and staff of MUHSD are able to access the textbook.
